Up in the Air Quilt Update

I've been super busy with magazine articles and developing my new Lion Brave pattern lately and although my original plan was to have my 'Up in the air' quilt done by now, it's sitting in my UFO pile. In the meantime...

Julia has finished hers and doesn't it look fantastic! Julia made the word block in the centre herself and once her quilt was finished, she sold it in her Etsy store and it sold the same day she listed it! Her fabric choices were so cute, it's no wonder it went so fast! You can check out her other quilts in her store here: https://www.etsy.com/nz/shop/JuliaMcTeerQuilting?ref=ss_profile

Garden Inspired Lap Quilt

Many of you would have already seen my Garden Inspired Lap Quilt Pattern pop up in the Payhip Store or on Instagram. It's called Grandmother's Garden (yes I know this is already an English Paper Piecing technique - but it is very practically named after finding inspiration from my own Grandmother's actual garden!) This quilt has quite striking colours and is made up of six 9" quilt blocks each one used twice to make a beautiful lap quilt which measures approximately 46" across and 35" down once the 2" sashing is added (although you could switch the rows or adjust the sashing to make it a different size if you wish).

I have written an article which is in the January Issue of Online Quilt Magazine explaining the basic process of paper piecing, and if you subscribe to this magazine you will get a free copy of the Iris Block Pattern. It's only $10 per year to subscribe to their premium magazine and it's totally worth it - there are lots of other patterns and tutorials in there, plus - a pretty good discount on my other patterns for subscribers.

My next article for this magazine will be in March featuring a different pattern from this collection. Over the course of the year, we plan to make the entire Grandmother's Garden Lap Quilt as a bit of a sew-along. We are staring with the easier patterns - so if you have never tried paper piecing before, this could be a great project to start with. I hope you check it out and show me your own iris blocks on Instagram using #kohatupatterns or comment below!

Happy Piecing!

Over the Holidays

I've been on a bit of a forced holiday. My sewing room currently doubles as our spare room and we have had visitors for the past two weeks - and it has been lovely. My son has loved having his Aunties, Uncles, and Grandad to play with and it has been a very busy time.
However, it's also left me itching to get my space back! I thought I'd show you a very rare photo of my workspace all tidied up (it usually looks like a tornado has hit it) before I get back in there and mess it up again!
Unfortunately, I fear that I may need to replace my precious fabric scissors, as I noticed that they were used for cutting open moisturizer bottles by a very frugal relative, who may not quite understand how precious sewers can be about their scissors and much they cost to replace!

Anyway - Happy New year Everyone! I'm off to mess up that room!

Happy Piecing!
